A SUPER effort by supporters of Pendleside Hospice has helped the organisation smash last year’s Light Up A Life fundraising total.

Nearly 8,000 people were remembered as part of the Reedley institution’s 2012 campaign - raising £107,625.

Around 1,000 people turned up for the show-piece launch on December 16, with the goal of beating the £103,376 total in 2011.

Lights also shone out from a specially-installed Christmas tree near the main entrance over the festive season, provided by sponsors Alderson and Horan Funeral Services.

Hospice fundraising manager Kaye Bartle said: “Light up a Life is important to a lot of people in our community, not just for the fantastic amount of money that it raises for patient care but for the opportunity it gives us to remember loved ones no longer with us at Christmas time.

“It allows us to take time out to gather together to collectively remember them and to make the point that although our loved ones may be no longer with us that they are not forgotten.”

Currently a Book of Remembrance is in production and should be ready for viewing by the end of March.
