Taxi warning to Pendle party-goers

PARTY-goers in Pendle are being urged not to risk their safety by using unlicensed taxis.

Pendle Council is warning people that using vehicles that have not got a licence means there are no assurances of their safety, or the cab’s roadworthiness.

All licensed vehicles are inspected for safety throughout the year by qualified assessors, and all licensed drivers undergo medical and a criminal record checks.

Licensed drivers have an identity badge with Pendle Council’s logo, the driver’s photograph, and number.

All Pendle’s licensed taxis are a red colour, or a purpose-built black cab. They also have a taxi roof sign, and display green plates on the front, and rear, of the vehicle.

A council spokesman said: “Do not get into any vehicle that is parked on the street, other than a taxi parked on a taxi rank, or parked outside a pub. You must have pre-booked these vehicles, or there is a chance you will not be insured, and the driver and vehicles may not be licensed.”

You're on the money there. You'd be surprised how many of these are knocking around. No prizes for guessing who drives them.

well he is one of the brothers,you look at that rank on a fri /sat night headlights out back lights out seat covers on the 12 year old car seats no thanks ill ring one from my home town up to date cars well maintained and trust worthy.use these taxi's at your own risk..its funny all taxi's carry a first aid kit but none of the drivers are qualified to use them ,well done pendle council not fit for purpose .

first aid kits are carried by all psv drivers not that we are not trained but its an insurance issue.stick a plaster on a person they are allergic one lge ins claim..school kids on days out the school has the first aid consent again not the driver yet teachers still accuse us of been callous.oap getting off a coach high step ins comp wont allow an extra step in case it breaks or they fall off.and you wonder why drivers offer little or no assistance..big claims by all wether trying to help or not..kids noooooooooo touchy feely claims are on the increase..were not tyrants just a person protecting their butts.

You don't need to pre-book a red taxi or a black cab sat at a taxi rank. It is private hire vehicles that have to be pre-booked.

I think you will find this is a mistake made by the Telegraph. Vehicles cannot pick up outside pubs without being pre-booked. You can pre-book red taxis or hail them or get them from the rank.
