A DAUGHTER has spoken of her frustration after MRSA contributed to the death of her mother in hospital.
An inquest heard that Ellen Brindle, 86, was believed to have caught the superbug during treatment for a bladder infection at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Consultant pathologist Richard Prescott said Mrs Brindle, of Whalley Road, Accrington, died from septicemia at the hospital.
She was also suffering from diabetes, dementia and angina and pressure sores on her back.
Dr Prescott said the MRSA was a contributing factor to her death but it was septicemia which killed her.
Her daughter Marilyn Brindle, 57, of Lancaster Avenue, Accrington, said if MRSA had been diagnosed earlier then her mother's condition may not have deteriorated so quickly.
She added: "My mum died in agony and I think if they had treated the MRSA it could have made a difference."
Coroner Michael Singleton said that there was no evidence that the infection was hidden from her family or poorly treated.
He delivered a verdict of natural causes.
