A stunning Battle of Britain lace panel will form the centrepiece of this year's free Heritage Open Day at Gawthorpe Hall on Saturday, September 13.
Valued at more than £5,500, the panel was woven in Nottingham between 1942 and 1946. It depicts scenes of the bombing of London, together with the badges of the Allied air forces and Winston Churchill’s famous phrase ‘Never was so much owed by so many to so few’.
The Gawthorpe Textiles Collection, a registered charity, recently acquired the panel with assistance from the Art Fund, together with the Arts Council England and Victoria and Albert Purchase Grant Fund.
The open day will run from 12pm to 5pm with the last admissions at 4.30pm.
