GREAT Harwood councillor Gareth Molineux has been put in charge of the council’s finances.
He was promoted to the cabinet after deputy leader Joan Smith announced she was stepping down due to ill health.
Coun Molineux, whose partner Jenny Nedwell is also a councillor in Great Harwood, will take on his new role on Monday.
He said: “This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited about the new position. I am looking forward to my portfolio and ensuring that I continue Joan’s work of keeping Hyndburn Council on a secure financial footing.”
Cabinet member for waste, Coun Paul Cox, will become the new deputy leader.
Although no longer deputy leader or a cabinet member from September 1, Coun Joan Smith will continue to represent the the Church ward.
