LANCASHIRE police is highlighting advice to help parents prevent their children from joining gangs.

The force is backing an NSPCC campaign which tells parents how to spot the signs of gang involvement.

The charity has compiled a list of the common signs, and the NSPCC is urging worried parents to contact their helpline.

Nationally, around one in six young people aged between 13 and 15 say they know someone in a gang.

An NSPCC spokesperson said: “Those who become involved are frequently abused, exploited and put in dangerous situations.”

Parents, carers and teachers have been urged to be on the look out. Signs include spending time with strangers, getting into trouble at school and sexual exploitation. Parents are also told to look out for unexplained injuries and becoming secretive.

Anyone with concerns can contact the NSPCC 24 hour helpline anonymously on 0808 800 5000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk.
