PET owners often take their sick animals to the vets too late because of what they read online.

A survey of vets by the British Veterinary Association revealed that 96 per cent of respondents in the North of England believed their clients’ behaviour was influenced after consulting ‘Dr Google’.

Robin Hargreaves, BVA president, said: “It worries me to hear that so many people are relying on guesswork or unverified internet sources for health advice for their pets.

“While there is some useful information about pet behaviour and health online, particularly from the established animal charities, the best source of information will always be your vet who knows your pet.”
