A WARTIME menu has been drawn up for the Colne Commemorates event this Saturday, a town-wide event in remembrance of the First World War.

From 10am to 5pm, a marquee will be erected between the market and the Co-op, serving ‘good old fashioned grub’.

On the menu there is potato and meat pie with mushy peas and red cabbage, Lancashire hotpot with beetroot and crusty bread, vegetable broth and dumplings.

For dessert, there will be creamy rice pudding and apple eves and custard. An array of events has been organised for the day, including a parade, street performers, short talks by Geoff Crambie and films about the Great War in The Little Theatre and a 1914 photographer’s studio in the Glass Box in front of the market where people can dress up and have a sepia portrait taken.

Colne Commemorates is the biggest event that Colne Town Council has ever staged and members expect visitors from all over the region.
