THE Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has warned that safety must be a priority when deciding applications for fracking.
This week, the government announced that licences are on offer for exploratory drilling for shale gas along the M65 corridor north of Blackburn through Burnley to Colne and down the Rossendale valley.
The institution’s policy chief, Jeremy Blackburn, said: “It is essential government applies precautionary measures to fully assess the safety and impacts of the process.
“Transparency, safety and environmental considerations are paramount.”
A Lancashire County Council spokesman said: "It's a complex area.
“We're working with Blackburn and Blackpool councils to produce a Supplementary Planning Document to help understand how it all fits together.”
