YOUNG bookworms at Haslingden High School were named the winners of a school reading competition.
The contest, which was won by 7M, saw pupils read more than 100 books as they took part in the ‘World Cup Winning Reads’.
The group, which was also representing Germany, who went on to win the real football World Cup, was propelled to victory after reading the books during the last half term of the school year. They were all given prizes to mark their literary achievements. Neve Hargreaves contributed by reading a whopping 26 books and Joseph Caldwell read 11.
Both were given some extra goodies for their hard work and effort. It was wonderful to see the students so enthusiastic about reading.
