VILLAGERS are urging visitors to pick up a selection of poppies to create a lasting memorial to the ‘Tommies’ who made the supreme sacrifice in World War One.
The Roughlee Poppy Project has seen specimens from Flanders field planted around the village, in memory of those who gave their lives for the Allied cause a century or more ago.
Plant pots filled with poppies are available to purchase in various locations around the Pendleside village.
Keen gardeners are being urged then to transplant the poppies into their own beds, ensuring a recurring floral tribute ‘for years to come’ according to organisers.
