A thief stole meat worth almost £20 from Lidl.
Burnley magistrates heard how ex-heroin addict Liam Michael Daley, 34, had previously tried to feed his habit while on benefits.
It was the third time this year he had been caught shoplifting, but he had recently been on a five day drug detoxification in hospital.
Daley, of Fraser Street, Burnley, admitted theft to the value of £19.95 in the town on July 12.
He was given an 18-month conditional discharge and must pay £30 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
