THE Salvation Army Trading Company charity shop in Darwen has launched its new ‘Open your hearts and wardrobes’ campaign with an appeal to local people to donate their unwanted clothes, shoes and accessories.

The new campaign will run for six weeks and its aim is to encourage people to have a wardrobe clear-out and inspire them to donate items they no longer wear or use, where the donated items can be put to good use and contribute to helping those in need.

Donated items such as T-shirts, trousers, jumpers, shoes, handbags and coats, can be sold to raise money to help The Salvation Army continue its social and welfare services throughout the UK.

Ann Penny, area manager for the charity, said: “We would like as many people as possible to participate in the campaign.

“The average UK household owns around £4,000 worth of clothes, and about 30 per cent of it hasn’t been worn in the last year.

“We want to encourage people to think about what’s lurking in the back of their wardrobe that they might be able to donate.”

Items can be dropped off at the shop in School Street.
