RIBBLE Valley residents going on ‘staycation’ this summer have been asked to keep an eye on food safety when eating out in the UK.

The borough council has advised residents holidaying in the UK to eat in establishments with a food hygiene rating of three stars or more.

The council’s head of environmental health, James Russell, said: “Ribble Valley has excellent eating establishments, 97 per cent of which have a food hygiene rating of at least three stars, but that might not be the case elsewhere in the country.

“Whatever your recipe for eating out during a day trip or holiday in the UK, whether grabbing a sandwich, sitting down to a four-course meal or indulging in a local delight, make sure you choose an eatery with a good food hygiene rating.”

All food premises in the UK, have star ratings for food hygiene, from zero to a top five-star rank.
