A BUMPER procession is planned for Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival and the stage in the park will see the return of ‘Gangnam Gran’.

The parade on Sunday will leave from Burnley Road, Bacup, at 11.15am, will go through the town centre and down Market Street to Stubbylee and Moorlands parks where events, stalls, displays and a fun fair will continue until 4pm.

Last year Dorothy Salt, from Stacksteads, took to the stage and performed the Gangnam Style, a South Korean dance track that went viral in late 2012, becoming the most watched YouTube video ever.

This year the 74-year-old grandma will dance to three numbers, including Meatloaf’s classic rock tune Bat Out Of Hell, to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The carnival is the biggest fundraiser of the year for mental health charity Rossendale Rubicon and its raffle has a host of celebrity prizes, including signed memorabilia and clothes worn by soap stars.

Jackie Oakes, parade co-ordinator, said: “I hope it is going to be one of the brightest and most colourful of all the processions we have held since the carnival re-launched in the town in 2010.”
