NEW figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders revealed a significant upturn in total mortgage borrowing last month.
Overall, there was an annual 36per cent rise in gross mortgage lending to £16.6billion during April — the largest total reported since April 2008.
Chief economist Bob Pannell said that the Bank of England’s signal that it will be addressing the issues of a housing price boom in the coming months would likely filter into mortgage lending figures.
