A CANNABIS user found with the drug told police: “I’m not getting locked up for a bit of weed,” and ran off, a court was told.
Burnley magistrates heard how an officer came across Stephen Crawford, 21, sitting on a bench in Leeds Road, Nelson, in the early hours.
Crawford became agitated, was searched, and cannabis was found on him.
The hearing was told the defendant became aggressive again, swore at the officer, struggled, and was flailing his legs around. He was eventually put into a police van and taken into custody. He then said: “This won’t stop me smoking cannabis. I will keep doing it.” Crawford refused to come out of his cell to be interviewed.
Crawford, who has 21 offences on his record, admitted possessing cannabis, and obstructing police, on May 13.
The defendant, of Heath Street, Burnley, was fined £70, and ordered to pay £40 costs, and a £20 victim surcharge.
