A HOMELESS man went out begging rather than committing any other type of crime, Burnley magistrates heard.
The court was told how hard-up Alan Heaton, 41, sat in the town's Charter Walk with his cap in front of him, but didn't want to and would rather have a place to call his own.
Heaton,of no fixed address, but formerly of Cornel Grove, Burnley, admitted begging in a public place on March 18. He received a 12 month conditional discharge.
Mark Williams, defending, said Heaton had been without benefits and had been living on the streets.
