THE Friends of Valley of Stone are inviting people to join them in carrying out conservation work at the ancient Rake, at Cowclough, on Sunday.

The conservation exercise will be followed by lunch, and a tour of Whitworth Museum.

The group aims to raise awareness of quarry heritage, and the Valley of Stone, to preserve and conserve the physical, social and cultural heritage of the quarries and their natural beauty, and increase the knowledge base about them through projects.

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in assisting the group to achieve its aims, and is willing to adhere to the rules of the group.

Anyone wishing to take part should meet the group at Cowm Reservoir, at 10.30am.

The cost of the event is £2.50, and booking is essential. For tickets, call Liz on 07946 281757.
