A RISHTON club will no longer open on Wednesdays.

The Free Gardeners Club, in Parker Street, already remains closed on Wednesdays outside of the bowling season.

The club’s committee said it had ‘reluctantly taken the decision’ for financial reasons.

A spokesman said: “Takings were below what is considered to be an acceptable operating rate even during peak season and it is now costing the club money to stay open as staff and running costs still have to be paid.

“Takings on Wednesday nights have traditionally been much lower than any other night of the week and this is a similar trend in many other local establishments.

“ It has been weighed up as in the best interests for the long-term future of the club.”
