A CLITHEROE vicar could take over the running of two extra churches following the retirement of a long-serving priest.
Revd Andy Froud, who is currently in charge of St Mary Magdalene’s church, could take over St Leonard’s in Downham and Christ Church in Chatburn after Canon Rodney Nicholson announced he intends to retire later this year.
Canon Nicholson, 68, took over the running of St Paul’s Church in Clitheroe for 24 years and also took on St Leonard’s and Christ Church 11 years ago.
Revd Froud, who is also a part-time chaplain at Clitheroe Hospital, said that the changes were being discussed and that he expected a decision soon.
St Paul’s Church would not be taken over by a full-time vicar if the plans are approved.
