A NEW drive to improve mental health in Lancashire is being introduced by the county council.
It will bring together a variety of organisations.
Led by county health boss Azhar Ali, it focuses on key stress factors including unemployment, low income, debt, violence, tragic life events, inadequate housing and fuel poverty.
The plan will highlight:
- The five ways to wellbeing – connection, learning, activity, giving to others, and taking notice;
- Providing a single point of contact for mental wellbeing experts in each area: and
- Providing training for health professionals.
Nelson South’s councillor Ali said: “One in four people will suffer from mental health issues at some time in their life ranging from mild stress to depression. We have to work more closely with agencies that support people with mental health issues.
“We are focusing on helping people in distress and encouraging people to take steps to improve well-being.”
