A PARTY will be taking place tonight to celebrate the official twinning of Darwen with Lamin, in Gambia. There will be a celebration in Gambia, which the president is scheduled to attend and, to mark the occasion, Darwen Music Projects has arranged an African night in the town. Local band Shantytown Junction, which plays guitar-based African dance music, will perform at Number 39 Hopstar Brewery Tap, in Bridge Street. The main act is TwoMan Ting, regulars at festivals across the UK, featuring Jon Lewis on guitar, percussion, loops, and vocals, and Jah Man Aggrey on vocals and percussion. Michael Fenton, from BBC Radio Lancashire’s ‘On The Wire’ show, will also play some African vinyl and CDs. Organiser Gary Ward said: “We have a Darwen band who play African music, so what better way to celebrate our town being twinned with a town in Africa? There are a lot of people in Darwen who like world music, so it promises to be a great night.” The event starts at 8pm, and admission is free.
