A FIRM run by a deaf business leader from Bacup has been shortlisted for a regional award.

Julie Ryder, the director and founder of HearFirst, which trains firms in areas such as disability, equality and awareness, British sign language and mental health first aid, has been nominated in the Enterprise Vision Awards.

Julie became profoundly deaf in her late twenties and after working as a volunteer with the Sympathetic Hearing Scheme and then as a committee member.

She started HearFirst in 2002 after funding was withdrawn for the project. It is the second year that the firm has been one of six businesses nominated for the Training and Coaching Business of the Year.

Julie said: β€œI am delighted to be nominated and shortlisted as a finalist in these awards.

β€œIt is a testament to the services we provide and to appreciate that they are recognised.”

HearFirst has worked with over 140 clients in the public, private and third sectors, delivering bespoke training to 30,000.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Blackpool Hilton hotel on Friday.
