A COMMUNITY room could be built on the side of Nelson Fire Station.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has sent an application for the extension at the Bradley Road station as part of a county-wide programme to provide improved services to the community for children.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “The current fire station was originally constructed to only provide for the requirements of firefighters and is therefore unsuitable for access and use by the community.
“To address this, the proposal is to extend the fire station to form a permanent community provision with segregated access and use between the community facilities and the fire brigade.
“A community room is included in the proposals which will accommodate groups of up to 40 people for continuation of existing Prince’s Trust programmes.
“The community room will also be available for community use by groups for meetings, seminars and training programmes.”
