A CAMPAIGNER who battled to get a Haslingden building back in the hands of the community has spoken of his joy after it was handed over to the Veterans in Communities charity.
Agapao International agreed to let the veterans’ group take over the running of the Mary Hindle Resource Centre, in Bury Road, last week.
Peter Sweetmore was a DJ for Rossendale Radio, which was taken over by Agapao before it lost its Ofcom licence in March 2012.
He said: “It’s brilliant news that the centre is back in the hands of an organisation which will use it to benefit not only the forces’ veterans, but the community as a whole.
“I would like to believe that the pressure created by those passionate about getting it back in the community has played its part.”
