ON Friday of last week I was compelled to enter Blackburn town centre, something which is akin to asking me to do a bungi jump.

As I walked along Northgate, parallel to Blackburn Magistrates Court, I noticed that above the entrance it was adorned with two advertising hoardings of mammoth proportions, advertising office space to rent and the other advertising rent for town centre car parking.

Whoever was responsible for allowing this monstrous apparition to appear on one of Her Majesty’s courts should, I think, be instructed on the fact that this is totally out of order and that it is very offensive to erect such an abomination on a fine piece of architecture.

These advertising hoardings would be more suited if they were placed over the entrance to the new Town Hall.
