IN response to the story about hairdresser Jeff Stone being run over by a car in a pedestrian zone (LT, April 20) – we have a pedestrian only zone in Nelson and when I suffered the same fate as Jeff, I complained to the council.
I found out that (a) despite notices and signs galore, they had no legal standing, and (b) if the vehicle was parked in the zone, it was the traffic warden’s responsiblity; if it was moving, it was up to the police to catch them.
A week or so ago, an elderly lady was knocked down. I am waiting to see what happens!
