Re the story about children tormenting the 102-year-old Burnley lady (LT, April 19).

It is absolutely disgusting that respect, discipline and common decency do not exist in these kids.

The problem is their parents don’t have it. They leave their kids to roam the streets and cause upset to elders of any age – it’s a way of life for them.

In addition, I’m sure that the neighbours could offer some form of protection in attempting to catch these thugs.

But then when they are caught what happens? They get a pathetic caution or possibly an ASBO.

Whatever happened to a good clip around the ear and borstal? The do-gooders put an end to that and this is the society of vermin we end up with.

We should teach their parents to show respect, discipline and decency and then we may see kids on the street showing the same.
