I travel about a lot on buses and can honestly say that the bus station in Burnley is one of the best.

It is clean, modern and well-lit. The toilets are free and in summer there are lovely floral displays. It is also safe and dry – there is no scurrying across bus ways in the rain.

But one thing has gone wrong. There used to be illuminated signs which showed departure gates and times.

Now the signs have gone and passengers really miss them. Their loss makes life difficult for lots of people.

If you can’t locate your buses quickly you may well miss them. This is frustrating and may well put some passengers off.

Many passengers have complained about losing the signs.

Friends of the Earth are trying to encourage people to use public transport rather than cars. Now Lancashire county coun-cillors have decided we can manage without the well-loved signs. How many of them use the bus station?

Friends of the Earth are appealing to the council to reverse their unpopular decision and quickly. After all, they are elected to represent our views.
