I strongly object to the reference (LT, July 7) to the young Darwen climbers as “idiots”.
They most certainly were not anything of the kind. In fact it was very uplifting to hear that there are still young people with a spirit of adventure in them.
All too often we read of the real idiots. It was a refreshing change to hear of this exploit.
They obviously had some climbing experience and planned it well.
Quote from the Daily Mail: When children learn to climb a tree they are learning to overcome a physical challenge, and it will stand them in good stead for overcoming other challenges in life.
