I fully understand Oscaritto, Nelson (‘To be or not to be English’, Opinion, April 20).
My father was Italian, came to this country at 14, fought in the First World War and when the Second World War started the authorities treated us like enemies.
I am 80 now but I remember how upset-ting all this was.
We were taunted by people, but we took it all as fun – no chip on our shoulder like today, no human rights in those days.
I do consider myself English and very proud to be. My mother was English and she and my dad were very happy.
Yes, Oscaritto is English.
D Walsh (Mrs), Rishton.
