All grave owners at Pleasington should have been made aware of the regulations at the time of grave purchase, and probably many would have respected these rules – until they saw the additional and varied items placed on graves, items which did not conform to the criteria.

If people visiting the cemetery could see these additions, so could the council officers responsible for the upkeep of this cemetery.

And if items were not acceptable, why was action not taken long ago?

By allowing this practice to continue regardless, the blame lies at the door of the council, not the grave owners.

It is not for others to judge what is acceptable and what is not.

It was for the council to deal with the issue in the first instance, not when the situation had escalated out of control.

Several people have made their comments very clear via this newspaper so surely now is the time for the council to clarify the issue one way or the other for the benefit of all concerned.
