I WATCHED the first episode recently of Coronation Street from 50 years ago.
In one scene of Ena Sharples in the corner shop, she purchased a packet of baking powder, a bottle of bleach and six fancy cakes for 3s 4d. Amazing!
When converted to decimal currency, that is 17p. I don’t think you can buy a box of matches today at that price.
How times have changed. I wonder sometimes, is it for the better or worse?
