I write in response to ‘23,000 homes planned for East Lancashire’ (LT, September 22).

I read with concern the article about housing development in East Lancashire and in particular the information about Ribble Valley.

I think it is especially important to emphasise to your readers that Ribble Valley Borough Council is currently consulting widely on a new development plan for the area.

This plan, known as the Core Strategy, will help shape the area in the future.

A key part of the Core Strategy will relate to housing development and where it will be located.

We are seeking views on a range of options, but nothing has been predetermined.

I am concerned that people may have mis-read the information you presented and mistakenly believe that decisions have already been made on which sites are to be developed. This is not the case.

We are encouraging as many people as possible to contribute to this process and debate.

We will be considering the responses fully, before drawing up our strategy for the area, which will then be subject to further consultation.

The Core Strategy consultation ends on October 20 and full information can be viewed at Michael Ranson, Leader, Ribble Valley Borough Council.
