I WAS appalled to read (LET, March 14) that county councillors are to keep their silver service menu at County Hall where they can have a three-course meal for £5 which they can also claim back on their expenses.
At the same time old folk are having to fork out £3.20 a day for a meal or choose a cheaper weekly delivery of frozen food.
These councillors like all other councillors will no doubt be getting other perks such as a free daily newspaper, free town centre parking and probably a free laptop computer amongst other things!
I am of the opinion that our pensioners are treated like second class citizens in their own country.
No wonder they have been on the march recently throughout Britain demanding their rights to a better existence.
It is disgusting how our elderly are treated, and the government both at national and local levels should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
But I expect we will hear a deafening silence from the government, or at best they will be telling us of the cash titbits they hand out, when they have the cash to do a lot better, like their counterparts to the rest of Europe.
