REGARDING Margo’s column it was great reading as I lived in Samlesbury and had to walk three miles to school and three miles back also with my clogs on to Brindle school.

We were a little lucky because we did have a teacher who lived next door and one came a mile and a half and she lived on a farm.

We had a fantastic time, we had milk and the clothes were dried but we paid one old penny for hot water.

The teachers made the slide and were the first down but we then snowballed them as we finished playtime. Happy days, as Margo said.

I was also married in the bad winter of 1947. I admit I was an hour and a half late because of snow in New Lane, Oswald-twistle.

But we had no work to go to because of power cuts, no machines were running in Blackburn.

Milk lady has not missed one day, postmen, paper lads and Warburton van has continued to deliver to shops in Church.
