I don't know how old MJ is (Letters, October 20) but I am old enough to remember the really good market we used to have!
People came from miles around just to visit Blackburn market.
What we want is to keep the present stall-holders, and to expand it, and that means putting the rents down!
If Blackburn with Darwen Council get all these big shops to open, then surely they will be able to do this.
They must be making a fortune with all these big names.
I would welcome the TJ Hughes, and the Sainsbury’s, and a bigger M&S, so I’m not saying they shouldn’t come. I shop at supermarkets for my ‘non-food’ items, yet I go on the market for my meat and fish.
There is nothing like choosing meat from the bone, so to speak.
You can choose which cut you want without it being already wrapped in plastic.
I know I am not alone with my views, but, I wish this present council would appreciate what the Blackburn people want, instead of lining their own pockets and telling us what we want!
JB, Pleckgate Road, Blackburn.
