CONFUSION by drivers on the roads is not confined to older citizens.

In fact recent experience indicates it is usually the younger driver who gets the most bewildered.

The road to our village has been closed for two weeks for road repairs. During that time, despite notices on the approach of its closure, there have been a constant number of drivers who arrive at the road barrier to find it really was closed.

The scariest are those that approach the barrier, which is on a bend, at speeds over the speed limit.

Usually, the higher the speed, the younger the driver, unless it is a 4X4.

Then there are the dismayed and annoyed, that come to a halt, then reverse with equal haste.

Would you also believe the unbelievers, who remove the barrier and continue down the road to find it really is impassable and then have to reverse?

Then there is the plain daft that go so fast they knock the barrier down.

Still it has kept us locals amused to explain to yet another bright young thing that yes, the road is closed and yes, they can't get through and yes, they DO have to reverse and go back.
