THE message is certainly loud and clear.

The people of East Lancashire have spoken and they want vital health care kept where it belongs. Right here in East Lancashire.

News of an NHS England review, which could see patients asked to travel to Manchester or Preston for seven key services, has prompted a massive public backlash.

Thousands have signed petitions supporting the Lancashire Telegraph’s Save Our Services rallying call.

And now David Cameron, on a pre-election visit to East Lancashire yesterday, has added his voice to the campaign.

He said the trust serving Blackburn, Burnley and the surrounding areas should have ‘the full suite of services to serve their local communities’.

Staff at the trust, which has won praise from many patients in light of the threat to services, has done what Mr Cameron asked in 2013 and turned the troubled organisation around. It climbed out of special measures last summer.

The Prime Minister himself says the ‘money is there’ so what we now need is for the PM to do his bit to allow the improved services to flourish.

Mr Cameron must turn his words into the actions needed to save the critical services.
