THE ‘rat-run victory for concerned Pendle residents’ (LT, January 17) just means another large dollop of taxpayers’ cash to inconvenience and cause discomfort to everybody.
It’s not just the initial expense but the additional maintenance costs these road safety schemes, as the traffic-calming measures such as speed humps collapse and width restrictions force all traffic to use the same two strips of tarmac causing road-rage incidents (the opposite of traffic calming) There’s also additional pollution through fumes and noise caused by vehicles slowing and accelerating.
When are we going to see proper enforcement of the 20mph limits already put in place in many residential areas? It’s effectively self-funding because of the fines revenue.
Drivers (and I am one) will learn quickly!
