IN an era of Premier League overrated prima donnas cheating, diving and feigning injury, I went to Victory Park last week to see Chorley take on Tamworth in their FA Trophy 3rd round replay.
In typical cup-tie conditions – driving rain, a mud heap of a pitch and two teams that gave everything – the stage was set for a cracking game.
It was a fantastic advert for football at grass roots level instead of the Premier League rubbish with pitches like snooker tables and the game being stopped due to play-acting.
The game was end to end with tackles going in at all angles. The players were covered in mud at the end.
That’s what it’s all about! It’s just a pity the TV people think that the Premier league is the ‘be all and end all’.
This game was worthy of a much bigger audience and it reminded me of the good old days.
Also, it didn’t cost me a week’s wages to get in.
