Taking into account that only £2million was spent by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Darwen town centre has improved slightly (‘Town centre is a winner, says heritage team’, LT, July 10).

Most residents would agree that it will take huge investments of cash and resources to bring the town into the 21st century, and I’m sorry to say that is very unlikely to happen. Looking on the bright side, all publicity is said to be good publicity, and this case study could be just what the town needs to start the ball rolling.
