WITH reference to the story about the man and his son almost hit by a car on leaving the pavement in Darwen (LT, November 20) – pavements are meant to be for the public; roads are meant for cars.
There is obviously a boundary to be drawn about vehicles having rights to park on their own property.
But if young children, who should be safe on a pavement and who cross busy main roads at the correct crossing locations, are put in danger by drivers taking advantage of a quick exit through busy traffic, just to get in front, something needs to be done.
If (God forbid) it went another way and the person in question had lost control of their vehicle, the newspaper heading may have been: ‘Car mows down father and son at crossing’.
What would be the reaction of people then?
