Oswaldtwistle learner driver flipped car over

A WOMAN flipped a car onto its roof when she hit a telegraph pole during a driving lesson.

Firefighters cut the driver and her female instructor free from the Vauxhall Corsa after they were called to the scene in Haslingden Old Road, Oswaldtwistle, at about 4.20pm yesterday.

Watch manager Paul Whittaker said: “It was a young lady on a driving lesson.

“She lost control on the bends at Ramsclough Farm and hit a telegraph pole, and the car ended up on its roof with her and her instructor, who were both in their 20s, inside.

"I don’t think they were particularly badly hurt. The ambulance crew were concerned about spinal injuries, so we got them out on spinal boards, but that is quite normal these days.

“We were there for about an hour because it was difficult to extricate them.”

That's brilliant - I have been driving for 30 odd years and have managed that yet.

What the article fails to say is whether this was a professional instructor or family/friend. As a qualified ADI myself I would never take a pupil on such a road on a first lesson. Just glad everyone is ok.

Soul - it doesn't say anywhere that it was her FIRST lesson....
hmmm well as a qualified ADI I take pupils down that road quite often and it's used by examiner's for test routes.

If it's where I think it is, it's a 40 zone all down there, so how did this happen?

The responsibility must lie solely with the "instructor" here, she clearly wasn't doing what she was being paid to do.

We musn't jump to conclusions here.
Even though the article says "instructor", there's no clear evidence of that being an ADI.
We all know what the newspapers are like to get a readership.

Lee the implication of a first lesson was from the radio news bulletin I heard and I did mention that the article didn't mention whether it was or wasn't and ADI. I have since found out that it was a national driving school.

Just to clarify, that this was not in the test area, it was further out along that road past the bends by the Grey Mare.
