A CAFE has been reopened six months after it was 'destroyed' by an electrical fire.

Gobbiners Cafe in Union Road in Oswaldtwistle was hit by the blaze on October 5 last year and had been closed until recently.

Christine Hannon, 56, has ran the cafe for 14 years and has endured a stressful six months since the fire.

However she said she is now delighted to have the cafe reopen, which she runs with her daughter Courtney Yates.

Mrs Hannon, from Oswaldtwistle, said: "It's been very hard work, especially with Christmas and everything.

"It is our livelihood at the end of the day.

"There has been so much to do and so much to sort out with insurance, we're still sorting it all out.

"The fire completely destroyed the place.

"It has been terrible, if it wasn't for my family I don't know what I would have done.

"Everyone has been so supportive to us."

The cafe is known for its special ‘bellybuster’ breakfast and also serves a variety of hot meals, light bites, snacks and drinks.

It has been completely redecorated and new furniture has been brought in for the reopening.

Mrs Hannon said she spent the time away from the cafe looking after her two grandchildren and spending time with her family.

The fire happened on Thursday, October 5 last year at around 6pm and was caused by an electrical fault with the fryer.

Luckily nobody was in the cafe at the time of the fire but it suffered heavily from smoke damage.

Mum-of-three Mrs Hannon said: "We've had to completely redo and start from scratch.

"It completely ruined the place, there was smoke damage all over, you can't clean up that sort of stuff.

"By the end of it everything was gone, it was heartbreaking to see.

"But no we're back open we've still got the same great food on offer.

"It's just such a relief to be able to get back on our feet and reopen.

"Now we just need to get the word back out there that we're open and ready for business."

She also praised the work of builders who have helped her get the venue reopen.

The owner said the cafe has proved particular popular with vintage car and motorbike enthusiasts as well as loyal customers from around Oswaldtwistle.

The cafe will be open from 8am until around 2pm each day.
