A WOODLAND attraction has seen facilities improved by volunteers.

Two wild life interpretation boards have been installed this week in Spout House Woodland at Huncoat. Further improvements in the coming weeks will see bird, bat and owl boxes installed in the area.

Of the two new information boards, one shows examples of birds seen in the area and the other leaves of the most common trees. The boards have been organised through the Prospects Foundation and Huncoat Community Forum, financed by the Big Lottery Fund Awards for All scheme.

Next Saturday volunteers will erect a number of bird, bat and owl boxes in the woodland to further improve the habitat.

Volunteer Roy Chetham said: “Hopefully this will enhance the woodland experience for visitors and increase appreciation of the local wild life.”

The oldest surviving trees in the woodland are beeches with an approximate age of 100 years and it is a haven for wildlife.
