FURTHER tributes have been paid to a 'town stalwart' after he died last week.

Details have been announced for the funeral of Geoffrey Hanson who died age 90 last week.

He was the chairman of Great Harwood Agricultural Show for 50 years and he was presented with the Honorary Freedom of Borough title by Hyndburn Council earlier this year.

He also took over the family animal feed and haulage business Hanson Feeds Ltd on Victoria Street aged 18.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 11am at St James’ Church, Altham.

A spokesman for the Great Harwood Agricultural Society said: "He was much respected by all the members for his forthright and calm approach."

Great Harwood Cllr Noordad Aziz said: "We've lost a stalwart of the town."

Husband of Margaret, who died in 1995, Mr Hanson had served in the RAF from 1947 to 1949 and was mainly stationed in Egypt.
