A 31-YEAR-OLD man and his ex-partner told different versions of events when he went round to her Great Harwood home late at night.

Blackburn magistrates heard Idnan Yakub claimed he had only pushed Mikala Edwards during a row.

She said he had thrown two pictures against the bedroom wall, punched her and then spat in her face.

The magistrates ruled that whichever version they believed would no affect their sentence and dealt with the case without hearing evidence.

Yakub, of St Edmund Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was fined £369 with £100 compensation, £85 costs and £36 victim surcharge.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said Miss Edwards had gone to bed at 10.15pm but was woken at 12.15am by someone banging on the letter box. She knew it was her ex-partner and let him in. He said he wanted to talk but she said she was up at 6 am and returned to her bed.

"He followed her and she says he threw two photographs against the wall and accused her of talking to another man," said Miss Akhtar. "There was an argument about something that had appeared on facebook and he punched her on the ear and then spat in her face."

Ian Huggan, defending, said since the break up Yakub and Miss Edwards had continued to work together in the interests of the children.

"He says he had gone to the address because he was meant to be sleeping over so he could take the children to school the next day," said Mr Huggan. "There was an argument about something that had appeared on Facebook but he says she was in his face and all he did was push her away. He denies throwing the photos, throwing a punch or spitting at her."
