A PENSIONER is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car as he crossed a road.
The 69-year-old was crossing Blackburn Road in Great Harwood at about 8.50pm last night when he was in collision with a Seat Ibiza.
The as yet unnamed man remains in Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries.
The Seat also collided with a parked Vauxhall Combo.
Police were planning to appeal for information over the weekend.
In the aftermath of the accident, a councillor who lives in Great Harwood said he would take up the matter of road safety with the county council.
Cllr Noordad Aziz, who represents the town on Hyndburn Council, said he would ask for statistics to be collated in traffic speeds in the area.
He also said a pelican crossing is only about 300 metres away from the scene.
Cllr Aziz said: “When anybody is injured like this we need to work together and do everything we possibly can to stop this sort of thing happening again.
“We have a duty to do that because the safety of our residents is of paramount importance.
“We do need to get statistics on the average speed in the area.”
